“Expedition to the Huix” combines analogue photographs of the Mauritanian desert, pen drawings, and a science-fiction narration and is presented both as room installation and artist book. The experimental book is a discovery tour into the fantastic world of the people of the Huix, as well as a visual reflection of our (post)colonial gaze.
A spaceship from Earth lands on the planet Seis. Human researchers meet the people of the Huix who live a magical connection to their planet. Bettina Hutschek’s contemporary fable is situated on Seis, but asks questions of our human values. Are the Huix the better humans?
