2015. Performance-Lecture, 45 -60 min AND Video, 25 min
Observations from reality, historical facts and fictitious elements are woven into the chronicle of Valletta.
The city is described as a hyper-structure situated between the real, the fictive and the imaginary. The Armadillo, who gave the Maltese Knights the idea of constructing Valletta in the shape of a big armadillo, is the guardian of Maltese memory. The form of an academic lecture is infiltrated by poetry and fiction. VALLETTA exists as a performance-lecture and video piece.
VALLETTA is a video made after the text of the performance-lecture of the same name. It tells the story of Valletta, the capital of Malta. VALLETTA is being described as a hyper-structure situated between the real, the fictive and the imaginary. In the story of VALLETTA, a big armadillo becomes the guardian of Maltese Memory, leading the listener through a time-line where scientific rigour and documentary facts are constantly being mixed up with poetic fiction and possible re-interpretations of historical events.
VALLETTA is part of an open series of performative city portraits.
