GREAT FLOATING STONE OF KALEVA

2024. Augmented Reality Project

The Great Floating Stone of Kavela was co-produced by Foundation Tartu2024 for Creative Europe Platform “Magic Carpets” using funds provided by the EU, Curator: Ann Mirjam Vaikla

The AR project delves into the beliefs and legends surrounding Estonian stones, including erratic boulders, “thunderbolts,” and healing stones.

Kaleva refers to an ancient Estonian goddess, the stones are 3D-scanned stones of Estonian archives.

By exploring their connections to Estonian folklore, I examine how these narratives shape our understanding of history and national identity. My performative presentation merges archival material with speculative storytelling through an Augmented Reality experience. The story weaves together past and present narratives while questioning national narratives and belief systems.
